The yellow ribbon saga was ongoing in the month of March, with the Catalan president, Quim Torra, initially ignoring the order to remove the symbols in support of the Catalan political prisoners from public buildings. A historic international mass feminist strike took place on March 8, as Barcelona was among the places seeing a purple tide of marchers take over the city. Participants called for equal rights and conditions for women, and highlighted prevailing inequalities in society and, specifically, the workplace EFE. -
A white supremacist of Australian origin killed some 49 people in two mosques in the largest city in the South Island of New Zealand, Christchurch. New Zealand’s prime minister, Jacinda Ardern, said: “This can only be described as a terrorist attack. As far as we know, it seems to have been well planned.” EFE. -
Thousands marched on the Cibeles fountain in Madrid, turning the city centre yellow with Catalan flags in further protests against the trial of Catalan leaders charged over the 2017 independence bid. The grassroots ANC organisation demanded that Spanish PM, Pedro Sánchez, order the charges to be dropped. ACN.
