Wine route through cava country

In the morning:

Mestres / Sant Sadurní d'Anoia

Records in Sant Sadurní dating back to 1312 show the Mestres family as owner of vineyards and traders of grain and wine. That means the family has been involved in wine over 28 generations. It also explains why the family chose to label their first Cava, or sparkling wine, to celebrate the founding of Bodegas Mestres with “1312”. Visitors to the Mestres winery can still see, even today, an extensive collection of documents relating to the ancestors of the family; scrolls and documents from 1312, 1591, 1607 ... 1832, are milestones in the history of the family and verify their dedication to the world of wine over the centuries.

Today, the 28th generation of the Mestres family follows the path laid down by its predecessors in its relentless spirit and entrepreneurship that characterized the Mestres family; a winery with seven centuries of history. All the products from Mestres' cellars reflect tradition and top quality cava production, but there is one, labeled “COQUET ” that deserves special attention.

The name Coquet comes from the estate named “Heretat Mas Coquet” , as recorded in the deeds from the year 1607. Turquoise is the colour on the label of Mestres Brut and is the colour found on the façade and rooms of the winery's headquarters which is also the family house. The historic documentation the Mestres family has been reproduced in various items of the new packaging.
