Here's to a summer filled with festivals

Catalonia has made a name for itself as a country of festivals, especially during the summer. The fact that Catalonia is now a top cultural destination at an international level, hosting events of a variety and quality difficult to equal, is testament to the commitment to culture and the hard work carried out in localities all over the country. Yet, it is above all the result of a thriving tourist sector that is one of the main drivers of the Catalan economy. Catalonia has learnt that the best way to compete with other destinations offering sun and sand holidays at reasonable prices is to also provide a range of unique experiences. Whether it is cultural heritage, gastronomy or its natural surroundings, Catalonia offers visitors that little bit more. From the mountains to the coast, from the city of Barcelona with its 1.6 million inhabitants to Peralada with its 1,900, there are festivals to suit just about every taste in Catalonia in July and August. Music, stage arts, cinema, whatever your cultural cup of tea, you will find something for you in our round-up of this year's summer events. Enjoy them, make the most of the holiday and we'll be back in September.
