BARÇA WIN FIRST TROPHY UNDER XAVI
After a thrilling performance, Xavi’s Barcelona side defeated Real Madrid to win the first trophy of the season and his first as Barça head coach. The 3-1 scoreline was the least the blaugrana deserved as they completely outplayed their eternal rivals in Riyadh.

Almost a year after winning the Golden Bear at the Berlinale film festival with Alcarràs, Catalan filmmaker Carla Simón continued her meteoric journey, collecting various awards – including four Gaudís – and travelling to countries all over the world to present the film.
RIOTERS IN BRAZIL
In scenes reminiscent of the January 6 Capitol riot when Donald Trump lost the election in the US, thousands of supporters of Brazil’s ex-president Jair Bolsonaro stormed government buildings in Brasilia demanding a military intervention to end the mandate of re-elected president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
JOYOUS KINGS’ DAY
Following several years of restraint because of Covid health restrictions, all the excitement and nervousness of a typical Dia de Reis – or Kings’ Day – returned to the streets of cities and towns around Catalonia as children lined the routes of different parades to welcome the gift-bearing Kings of the Orient.
