Baroque music in the Pyrenees
The months of July and August will see a major celebration of early music in some 37 towns around the Catalan Pyrenees, from Bossost to Estamariu, from Camprodon to Tremp. The Festival of Early Music in the Pyrenees, or Femap for short, again comes out as the largest festival of its kind in the whole of Europe.
Along with its commitment to providing the highest quality concerts and musicians, the festival also combines heritage and tourism, also offering guided tours, tasting sessions, and a host of other cultural activities.
This year’s edition of the festival, the ninth, kicks off on July 7 at Seu d’Urgell with the Flandria-Pyrenaei Ensemble playing examples of baroque music from Flanders and Catalonia. The festival is brought to a close in Beget on August 25, with a duo performance by cellist Arnau Tomàs and harpsichordist Mercè Hervada. In between, there will be performances all over the mountain towns from some of the best groups and artists in the field that Europe has to offer.
