EC preparations for no-deal Brexit completed
Brussels is prepared for the worst. “As it is increasingly likely that the United Kingdom will leave the European Union without a deal on 12 April, the European Commission has today completed its “no-deal” preparations” read a press release published by the European Commission yesterday.
The new EU April 12 deadline was granted so that if the british government does not manage to get its agreement through parliament, there is time for it to communicate its decision as to the next steps, that is, a longer extension involving participating in EU elections in May, or a no-deal brexit. Anticipating the latter the Commission’s teams have carried out broad technical discussions with the 27.
Brussels confirmed yesterday that, in the event of a hard Brexit, the British will be able to travel for up to 90 days in the EU without a visa as long as London agrees to the same conditions for EU citizens. Passports will be stamped on EU entry and on departure from the EU. The commission also warns that British travelers will lose the right to access EU healthcare systems using their European health cards.
Another change in the case of a no-deal Brexit affects the telephone companies, who will not be obliged to eliminate roaming charges for British users.
