POINT MADE

Read between Collboni’s lines

It is said that one should read between a politician’s lines. It is usually in a few sentences, sometimes one, where their true intentions for the future are hidden: a few key phrases in the midst of a long speech full of excited electoral proclamations, for consumption by their politically near and dear. The PSC candidate for mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, outlined three post-election scenarios, this Saturday: Colau could lose the mayoralty, but her party continues in government. Or Barcelona En Comu might be bumped out of government. Or Colau might win by such a small margin that she has to form a coalition. But Collboni’s speech boils down to this: PSC wants to, and can, win.
