New records set in 41st Barcelona marathon
Ethiopian-born athlete Alemu Bekele, who competes for Bahrein, won the 41st Barcelona marathon yesterday, setting a new record of 2 hours, 6 minutes and 4 seconds. The women’s category was won by Ethiopian Kuftu Tahir, who also set a new record of 2 hours, 24 minutes and 44 seconds. Some 17,500 runners took part in the race, below the record participation in 2016 of some 20,221 competitors.
