New records set in 41st Barcelona marathon

Ethiopian-born ath­lete Alemu Bekele, who com­petes for Bahrein, won the 41st Barcelona marathon yes­ter­day, set­ting a new record of 2 hours, 6 min­utes and 4 sec­onds. The women’s cat­e­gory was won by Ethiopian Kuftu Tahir, who also set a new record of 2 hours, 24 min­utes and 44 sec­onds. Some 17,500 run­ners took part in the race, below the record par­tic­i­pa­tion in 2016 of some 20,221 com­peti­tors.
