Huawei sues US for banning its products
The telecommunications equipment manufacturer Huawei yesterday announced a lawsuit against the US government for promulgating a law prohibiting it from doing business with companies that use equipment from the Chinese firm. The lawsuit comes amidst accusations of espionage by the company, which, in turn, claims Washington is hacking its servers.
Huawei President Guo Ping announced the legal actions being taken by the company at a press conference, challenging Section 889 of the American National Defence Authorisation Law, which prevents government agencies from buying products from the Chinese manufacturer. “This ban is not only illegal, it also prevents Huawei from participating in fair competition and, ultimately, harms US consumers,” Guo said, adding it is “an abuse of the US legal process, it ... goes against the nature of the Constitution itself.”
