’Vote Catalan’ in municipal elections

Primaries Catalonia held a massive event yesterday to promote citizen participation in the upcoming municipal elections, most of which will be held on 23rd of February. Under the slogan “The Catalan Republic starts here”, the event filled the Plaza de Castelldefels Theater, and was introduced by the actor Sergi Mateu. Two of the most prominent speakers were Aamer Anwar, rector of the University of Glasgow and lawyer for Clara Ponsatí, who denounced the “hypocrisy” of European leaders, who “manifest against situations in other countries, such as Venezuela, but remain silent on what’s happening in Catalonia”. One of the most applauded speeches was Jordi Graupera, candidate for Barcelona, who claimed “this is how we defeat the Spanish State, and overcome the system of vertical, hierarchical, insincere parties” stressing that “power lies in making autonomous decisions”.
