Water prices to drop in Barcelona in 2020

Water customers in 23 municipalities in the Barcelona metropolitan area, who get water supplied by Aigües de Barcelona may see their water prices drop from the 1st of January, 2020, by a minimum of 3.9%. The total economic impact for customers of the service could be as high as 12 million euros. This economically positive news is the result of a new tariff proposal from a public-private company, the majority stakeholder of which is the AgBar company. The Barcelona Metropolitan Area Council (AMB) must sign off the proposal, which is likely to happen on the 29th. There is a chance the rebate subscribers might see could be even higher. According to Eloi Badia, the Vice-President for Environment of the AMB, “this proposed reduction is still insufficient”. This development is the latest in the conflict between the council and water providers, which saw prices frozen for 2019.
