Gbagbo acquitted of crimes against humanity
The former president of the Ivory Coast, Laurent Gbagbo, who stood accused of crimes against humanity for the deaths of some 3,000 people in post-election protests, yesterday became the first former chief of state tried by the International Criminal Court ( TPI) to have his charges dismissed. Gbagbo, 73, has spent seven years in prison in The Hague for the events that took place after the 2010 elections, when he rejected the victory of the current president, Alassane Ouattara.
