Children with more muscle develop more lung function

Chil­dren with more mus­cle de­velop bet­ter pul­monary func­tion. So says a study from the Barcelona In­sti­tute for Global Health, which mon­i­tored al­most 7,000 chil­dren from birth in the UK. The find­ings were pub­lished yes­ter­day in the Amer­i­can Jour­nal of Res­pi­ra­tory and Crit­i­cal Care Med­i­cine. The study found that both boys and girls with more mus­cle mass de­velop greater rates of forced vital ca­pac­ity (FVC), the amount of air a per­son can ex­hale after breath­ing in as deeply as pos­si­ble.
