Bringing order to the works of modernist master, Ramon Casas
Cataloguing the prolific output of Ramon Casas is the task undertaken by a new organisation, Estate Ramon Casas, which aims to promote the modernist artist and his legacy. So far, 3,200 of 5,000 artworks have been logged, says gallery owner and Estate member, Gabriel Pinós. Once the cataloguing is finished, the aim is to set up a committee of specialists with technical support from galleries to authenticate works “and that way get forgeries off the market.”
Now, the aim is to publish volume one of a catalogue registering over a thousand works by Casas, many of which have never been seen before. Apart from Pinós, other experts involved are Juan C. Bejarano, Emiliano Cano, Jordi Sánchez Ruiz, Santi Barjau, Vicente de la Fuente, Fàtima López and Sebastià Sánchez Sauleda.
So as to easily incorporate future additions, the catalogue is organised by theme. In volume one, themes include such areas of Casas’ life as his trips (Paris), his role as an illustrator, Spanish folklore, his passion for vehicles, his work as a poster artist and his portraits.
Among the novelties in the catalogue are such curiosities as the make and model of the Quatre Gats tandem that appears in the famous painting by Casas, as well as all of the work he produced during his stay in Paris, where he went to attend the Universal Exposition of 1900.
