Sájarov prize for imprisoned Ukrainian director
In a gesture clearly meant as a warning to Russia, the European parliament gave the Sakharov 2018 prize for freedom of thought to Ukrainian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov, who is serving a 20-year sentence in a Siberian prison for allegedly planning terrorist attacks. “Words are a person’s main tool and often his [sic.] only one too, especially when everything else has been taken” said the director.
