Catalan Pyrenees full for holiday weekend
Next week’s long bank holiday weekend will see just about all the 26,000 places occupied in hotels, rural guest houses, tourist apartments and campsites in the Catalan Pyrenees. It is a good start to what is promising to become the longest ski season ever, after snow already began falling some weeks ago.
An example is the rural guest houses of the Garrotxa and Cerdanya regions, which will be full over the weekend, according to Girona’s hostelry federation, while in Ripollès occupancy rates are up to 90%. It is a similar story with hotels and campsites, where reservations are 5% higher than last year, says the travel agents’ association, Acave.
It all depends on skiers and other winter sports enthusiasts, who are expected to come to the Pyrenees in their thousands. The holiday weekend is shaping up to be the opener for a great season that will go on until Easter, which next year is later than usual, from April 14 to 21.
