President Torra will not attend Constitution event

Catalan president, Quim Torra, will not attend the event celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Spanish Constitution on December 6. Arguing that the constitution has become “a prison for Catalans’ freedom of speech and their capacity to decide,” he announced his intention to stay away from the events in a letter to the speaker of the Spanish parliament. According to Torra, the state is interpreting the 1978 constitution in a “restrictive, closed-minded” way that “perpetuates injustice.”
