Work to begin on third lane for C-58 motorway
The territory department has announced that this month work will begin on one of the most demanded infrastructure projects in the Vallès Occidental area: the widening of the C-58 motorway, from Barcelona to Terrassa. The first toll-free motorway built in Catalonia is one of the main access routes into Barcelona for vehicles coming from Vallès Occidental, Bages and Berguedà.
Some 160,000 vehicles on average use the motorway in the Barcelona area every day, with 54,000 using it around Terrassa. The motorway already has three lanes on the stretch between Barcelona and Sabadell, but from Sabadell to Terrassa there are only two, causing serious traffic delays at peak times.
In October, the territory department said it was working on three solutions, the first of which is adding a third lane between Terrassa and Sant Quirze del Vallès. The new lane will be 4.2 kilometres long and the work, which has been awarded to Asfaltos Augusta and CRC Obras y Servicios, with a budget of 8.1 million euros, will take a year to complete.
The second solution will involve work on a stretch of the motorway near Sabadell, where the AP-7 and B-30 motorways merge, but where traffic builds up, while the third solution will see two lanes built between Sant Quirze and Terrassa, in the direction of Manresa, to improve access to industrial estates.
