Abolitionist slave to feature on twenty-dollar bill

Harriet Tubman (1820-1913), an anti-slavery crusader, is to be the first African-American and first woman in over a century to appear on U.S. paper currency. The activist will appear on the face of the $20 bill, replacing former President Andrew Jackson, himself a slave owner, who will move to the back. The US Treasury says these and other changes will reflect “modern American history.”
