Raül Romeva: “EU expulsion of Catalonia not legally tenable”

The Catalan elections of 27-S present the opportunity that 9-N could not, according to the lead candidate of pro-independence organisation Junts pel Sí - Together for Yes - Raül Romeva in an interview with El Punt Avui television yesterday. Romeva stressed that the elections will be decisive for the future of Catalonia, as this is how the tools necessary to govern will be created. And obtaining these tools is the sole aim of the Junts pel Sí candidacy, Romeva arguing that its political programme is a temporary situation that will pivot on two axes. One, that of obtaining state structures for the transition, the legal framework and constitutional process. And the other, day-to-day management and ensuring that services work normally.

Regarding the feared expulsion of Catalonia from the EU, Romeva called upon his experience as an MEP, which tells him that anyone who knows how Europe works knows that this threat has no foundation. In his opinion, it is only being used for fear and deceit.
