Making the most of La Garrotxa

Garrotxa’s tourism office has presented a group of 44 proposals for experiences to enjoy all year round in the popular land of volcanoes

Garrotxa’s tourism office, with companies that form part of its Innovation and Product Service, this June presented a collection of 44 proposals for experiences to enjoy all year round in the popular land of volcanoes. The collection is split into four sections (nature and culture, gastronomy, health and well-being, and outings among volcanoes), which include different unique experiences of very different types.

One is taking a balloon flight over the volcanoes, providing a unique perspective from a bird’s eye view. Cava is served to the passengers during the flight while they contemplate the landscape for miles around.

Meanwhile, walking enthusiasts can opt for Caminant pel romànic de la Garrotxa, which, as its name suggests, proposes discovering the Romanesque heritage of the region on foot. There are two hiking trails along ancient paths that allow walkers to discover an exceptional landscape, including the spectacular volcanoes and their lava flows, the Fageda d’en Jordà beech forest, and paths that date back to medieval times.

Other options include discovering local ravines, a trip to the Museu dels Sants in Olot, which now has an escape room, or a nighttime walk to learn about the area’s nocturnal creatures. Besides that, there are also tasting sessions of locally produced delicacies and a range of other gastronomy options.

The offer is completed with guided tours to the least known corners of La Garrotxa, taking in sunsets, local flora, orientation circuits, and visits to farms and workshops. In short, this very complete programme caters for all types of people, tastes and ages.

The publication of the proposals is a response to the interest generated by many of the activities that were part of the 10 sustainable packages known as Experiències Garrotxa incoming, which were marketed through travel agencies accredited with the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism. As the Experiències Garrotxa incoming programme is still running, these 44 new proposals expand the options available to visitors to La Garrotxa.

In addition, the tourism office is also promoting the Ara us cuidem nosaltres and Agenda d’estiu campaigns, which are made up of 40 guided tours from different activities companies over the coming months. The office is also working on new ideas to help reactivate the local tourism sector after the coronavirus pandemic (http://ca.turismegarrotxa.com/propostes).
