Fewer children

Catalonia went from having almost 100,000 births every year in the 1970s to 55,000 in the 1990s. In other words, there was a decline in children per woman that has since recovered slightly. The baby boom generation of the 1970s getting to fertile age and the arrival of migrants, meant that the birth rate rallied in the first decade of the 21st century. On the other hand, it is estimated that between 2013 and 2025 some 21% fewer children will be born than between the years 2000 and 2012.
