More deaths
For the first time in the recent history of Catalonia it is forecast that in the immediate future –before 2020– the number of deaths will outstrip that of births. The mortality rate is rising, despite the increase in life expectancy, simply because there are more people reaching old age than before. As for migration –very difficult to forecast– numbers have recently been negative but in the next few years it is expected to recover and then stabilise.
