A new season means new ingredients
The advent of spring signals a flurry of food festivals celebrating local produce from Pals rice and Tarragona seafood to tapas on the Costa Brava and fresh artichokes in Prat de Llobregat
All month. In praise of rice
In Pals, the locals are proud of their rice and during the month of April many restaurants have special menus honouring delicious local recipes. It is all part of a culinary festival that has been running now for 23 years, and that has become hugely popular throughout Catalonia.

April 8-24. Torredembarra squid
Stuffed with barley or rice, among other things, squid and octopus are popular dishes along the Catalan coast. The seaside town of Torredembarra even has a culinary fair in their honour from April 8 to 24. Local restaurants are delighted to offer diners a rich variety of dishes.

April 15-17. Health and cuisine
This is the third year that Torroella de Montgrí celebrates a culinary fair aiming to promote healthy eating without losing any of the joys of good food. A slow food festival, it has workshops, tasting sessions of local products and even special shows to entertain the kids.

From April 9. Ganxotapes
The delights of top tapa tasting with a quality wine for just €2.50 is not just a bargain, but all part of a competition run by local clubs in the Ganxotapes de Primavera, in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, from April 9. Spring and all its joys, it seems, have finally arrived in Baix Empordà.

April 15-17. Festa de l'Ajust
On the third Sunday after Easter, Breda celebrates the Festa de l'Ajust, showcasing the work of local associations, with commerce and local restaurants promoting local products.It is a popular festival that attracts visitors from near and far keen on trying the local delights.

All month. Artichokes in el Prat
It is hard to imagine all the ways an artichoke can be used, but the people of Prat de Llobregat, the local culinary association and the Damm brewery have some good ideas. In April the artichoke is king, with a jazz concert and a tapas fair on April 23 and 24.
