“I don’t answer fascist, sexist, xenophobes”

Judge Marchena expelled ex-deputies Eulàlia Reguant (and Antonio Baños), of the National Unity Congress (CUP), from the Catalan trial, for refusing to answer questions from Vox. Reguant is interviewed here.

What possible legal consequences might you suffer?

In theory the refusal to answer could be considered disobedience, which carries a sentence of six months to a year in prison. So far, neither Baños nor I have been informed of any fine or charge.

You were called to appear in the trial in defence of Jordi Cuixart. Is his defence at risk?

Vox’s presence in the court puts Cuixart at risk, not my refusal to respond to them. Cuixart’s defence from the beginning has made it clear that the presence of Vox is the issue, and has been demanding that they be removed, for months now.

Would you have responded via Judge Marchena?

If Vox had submitted written questions to Judge Marchena I would have responded, yes.

Would you have responded to the state lawyers and prosecution?

Yes, despite knowing full well what each of them represent. It cannot however be normalised that a fascist, sexist, xenophobic party be allowed to bolt on to trials like this.
