Human Rights defender gets prison sentence

A Tianjin court yesterday sentenced Wang Quanzhang, a lawyer specializing in defending human rights, to 4 years and 6 months in prison for “subverting state power”. Getting charged with “subverting state power” can result in a life sentence. The court also suspended Wang’s political rights for five years. In 2015, Wang was arrested alongside 250 other jurists and activists.
