Catalan crisis had no effect on ratings: Bonds by 2020

The Cata­lan gov­ern­ment aims to re­duce de­pen­dency on the Span­ish state, as a rule. The Gen­er­al­i­tat will spend this year at­tempt­ing to ready it­self to issue gov­ern­ment bonds, to put its debt out to in­ter­na­tional mar­kets in 2020. How­ever, Cat­alo­nia’s scores with rat­ings agen­cies must first in­crease - and most would cur­rently peg the re­gion’s bonds as “junk”. How­ever, both Moody’s and Fitch have as­serted that the po­lit­i­cal cri­sis has had no ef­fect on the Cata­lan econ­omy, and in­creased the re­gion’s rat­ing to “sta­ble”. DBRS has Cat­alo­nia only a frac­tion below “sta­ble”.
