POINT MADE

China competes in space, too

China took its place as a power in space too, yesterday, landing on the hidden side of the moon. Significantly, this came a few days after the United States managed to send a probe beyond Pluto, and in the same year in which NASA will celebrate half a century since the landing of the first human on the moon. The Asian superpower also wants to send astronauts there, and next year will begin construction of their very own space station, to be launched by 2022. China is most definitely no longer just “the factory of the world”. It is a formidable technology competitor, who stares down the Western competition in the fields of telecommunications, engineering and research, and wants to oust them.
