Bolsonaro endangers nature reserves

Jair Bol­sonaro was sworn in yes­ter­day as Pres­i­dent of Brazil. Hours after tak­ing of­fice the far-right politi­cian signed a de­cree that gives the min­istry of agri­cul­ture (which is con­trolled by the agribusi­ness lobby) power over the reg­u­la­tion and cre­ation of new in­dige­nous re­serves. This act has sparked in­dig­na­tion from in­dige­nous lead­ers, who see this de­cree as a threat to na­ture re­serves and a con­ces­sion to farm­ing in­dus­try in­ter­ests. And right now de­for­esta­tion is be­com­ing in­creas­ingly dan­ger­ous for the planet.
