Espejo (mirror) of shame
The world of politics is miserable, where shamelessness is endemic, and cynicism and the dark arts abound. Only in this world could we have politicians disparaging their adversaries’ speeches before they have even uttered them. Attack them to rile up our radical base! That is the logic of Mr. Espejo Saavedra, the vice-president of parliament, who walks this planet implying he has otherworldly powers, when he criticised President Torra for “once again ignoring half of Catalans” in his year-end speech. Espejo spoke out in the morning, but Torra’s speech was in the evening. Either Espejo has bumbling spies, or his is a mis-firing psychic. Attack your rivals before listening to them: a great lesson on constitutionalism.
